Embracing Your Inner Superhero:
Meeting the Emotional Challenges of the Cancer Journey with Skill, Resilience, and Compassion
Janet Curry, MA, LPC
Though cancer is a disease that manifests in the body, the journey toward healing engages every aspect of our being — physical, mental, emotional and relational. This workshop ask for: emotional distress. gently explores and brings skillful ways to work with the common human reaction to what we don’t like and didn’t Using evidenced-based mindfulness practices, we will map how we get stuck in patterns of distress, such as intense body sensations, negative thoughts, emotions and behavior. Our focus will then turn to specific, practical, and kind skills for disentangling ourselves from these patterns, cultivating our deep capacity for resilience and self-compassion as we embrace our own “inner superhero.”
Qigong and the Relaxation Response
Oley Smith, Dipl. O.M., L.Ac.
Qigong is a Chinese health and longevity practice as old as Chinese Medicine itself. In this presentation we will identify the effects the relaxation response has on immunity, the lymphatic system, and the health of our DNA. By using the breath, gentle movement, and the focus of the mind we will learn how to initiate this relaxation response in our bodies to manage stress, overcome disease, and optimize our health.
