A regular yoga practice can increase flexibility, strength, and balance in the mind and body for those who have been deconditioned by cancer and its treatments. In many medically published studies, cancer patients who regularly participated in a therapeutic yoga practice reported less anxiety and depression, lessened fatigue, improved physical strength and flexibility, improved sleep and mental clarity. It can also help ease feelings of distress, improve mood, and help to reclaim a sense of calm. One of the most valuable elements of these classes is the kindship and friendship that is gained, which can become a cherished benefit of a community of yoga practitioners.
This class is beneficial for people in recovery from or living with cancer and auto-immune disorders such as: fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, MS, and rheumatoid arthritis. It is also supportive for those healing from structural challenges such as chronic back, neck pain or joint restrictions. The group atmosphere offers a friendly and communal space to re-integrate body and soul, and provides a safe way to begin moving. Students leave class feeling empowered by learning new ways to alleviate their own pain and tension, while finding a greater sense of peace of mind.
